FAQ
What is a satoshi?
The smallest unit of Bitcoin: 1 BTC = 100,000,000 satoshis ("sats"), named for Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator. Prices in sats avoid the psychological trap of thinking Bitcoin is "too expensive" — nobody needs to buy a whole coin, and most Australians never do.
Why do people quote prices in sats?
Small amounts read more naturally: a $6 coffee is easier to grasp as thousands of sats than as 0.00006-something BTC. Lightning payments, tips, and stacking small regular buys are all conventionally denominated in sats.
How many sats does A$100 buy?
It moves with the Bitcoin price — the converter above uses our live AUD rate, refreshed continuously. As a worked example at A$100,000 per BTC, A$100 buys 100,000 sats.
