Our take
Swyftx is the exchange we point most first-time Australian buyers at, and it earns that position on the details rather than the marketing. Founded in Brisbane in 2018, it pairs a clean app with the things beginners actually get wrong elsewhere: a genuine demo mode with pretend money, free PayID deposits that land in minutes, and small-order minimums that let you start with $50 rather than $500.
It has also grown up fast. The 2025 acquisition of brokerage Caleb & Brown gave it a serious high-net-worth arm, and its 400+ asset range covers everything most investors will ever want. The trade-off is price: the 0.6% trading fee plus a spread means active traders will find cheaper venues — but for set-and-forget buyers the total cost is fair for what you get.

What will you actually pay?
The headline 0.6% fee is only part of the story — Swyftx builds a spread (typically around 0.55%) into the quoted price, so budget roughly 1.1–1.2% all-in on a market buy. That is mid-pack for Australian retail platforms: clearly cheaper than instant-buy at CoinSpot or CoinJar, clearly dearer than Kraken Pro or OKX for anyone trading size.
For context, the AU instant-buy average across our 13 tracked platforms is 0.76%. Worked example excludes network fees for on-chain withdrawals; estimates come from our verified fee data. See the full fee comparison or model your own trade in the profit calculator.

- Large asset range (400+ listed)

- Free AUD withdrawals

- 0.6% instant-buy fee is beaten by pro-interface market orders elsewhere

Who is Swyftx for?
✅ Good fit if…
- You are buying crypto for the first time and want to practise in demo mode before spending a dollar
- You want free, near-instant PayID deposits and no AUD withdrawal fee
- You want one app that covers 400+ assets, recurring buys and an SMSF option
⛔ Look elsewhere if…
- You trade actively and care about every basis point — the ~1.1% all-in cost adds up fast
- You want to hold coins in your own wallet from day one (see Elbaite)
- You need advanced order types and charting — the pro tools are basic compared with Kraken
Is Swyftx safe?
Swyftx is AUSTRAC-registered, Brisbane-based, and has no hack or regulatory penalty on our record — one of the cleaner sheets among the majors. It is still a custodial platform: coins sit in Swyftx’s wallets, not yours, so the usual rule applies — keep long-term holdings in your own wallet and use the exchange for buying and selling.

Getting started on Swyftx
- 1 Create and verify your account
Sign up with your email, then complete identity verification (driver's licence or passport). Swyftx is AUSTRAC-registered, so KYC is mandatory — most approvals take minutes.
- 2 Deposit AUD
Fund the account using payid · osko · bank transfer · card — PayID is free and usually lands within minutes.
- 3 Place your first order
Skip the instant-buy button: the market/pro order screen costs 0.6% instead of 0.6% — same coins, much lower fee.
- 4 Secure what you buy
Enable 2FA immediately, and consider moving long-term holdings to your own wallet — exchange accounts are for trading, not vaults.

I like the way Swyftx lets you set up multiple coin purchases with the funds you have available. Whichever coin reaches the trigger condition first gets purchased automatically.
