Our take
The Nano X made hardware wallets mobile: Bluetooth pairing with the Ledger Live phone app means you can check balances and sign transactions without a cable. At A$259 it remains the workhorse for people who actually transact from a phone.
It is now the senior citizen of Ledgerโs range โ an EAL5+ secure element versus the EAL6+ in newer devices, and no touchscreen. Still entirely fit for purpose, but if you are buying new at this price, the Nano Gen5 deserves the comparison.

Pros & cons
Pros
- Dedicated secure element (EAL5+)
- Broad asset support: 5,500+ assets
Cons
- Closed-source firmware โ you trust the vendorโs claims
- Bluetooth adds convenience and a (mostly theoretical) attack surface
How secure is Ledger Nano X?
Bluetooth on a signing device sounds alarming; in practice the sensitive material never leaves the secure element and pairing is authenticated โ no real-world fund loss has been attributed to it. The EAL5+ chip is a generation behind Ledgerโs newest. Closed source, official-store-only, seed offline: the usual Ledger rules.
Who is Ledger Nano X for?
โ Good fit ifโฆ
- You manage your portfolio primarily from a phone
- You want proven hardware with years of field history
- You need many coin apps installed simultaneously
โ Look elsewhere ifโฆ
- Buying new today โ the Nano Gen5 is newer silicon at similar money
- You want no wireless radios at all
- Open-source firmware matters
Getting started with Ledger Nano X
- 1 Buy from the official store only
Order Ledger Nano X direct (our Buy button goes there) or from an authorised AU reseller. Never second-hand, never marketplace sellers โ pre-tampered devices are a real scam.
- 2 Set up and back up offline
Initialise the device and write the recovery phrase on the supplied card โ by hand, never in a photo, password manager or cloud note.
- 3 Verify with a test transfer
Send a small amount from your exchange first, confirm it arrives, then move the rest. Verify the receive address on the device screen, not just your computer.
- 4 Store device and backup separately
The device in one place, the recovery phrase in another. Anyone holding the phrase holds the funds โ treat it like the asset itself.
FAQ

Ledger Nano X is a non-custodial hardware wallet with a EAL5+ secure element. No wallet removes the human risks: phishing and seed-phrase theft cause far more losses than device flaws.
How much does Ledger Nano X cost in Australia?
A$259 from the official store or authorised AU resellers. Never buy second-hand or from marketplace sellers โ tampered devices are a known scam.
What coins does Ledger Nano X support?
5,500+ assets
The bottom line
Still a fine mobile companion โ but cross-shop the Gen5 before paying nearly the same for older internals.
