Our take

The Stax is Ledgerโ€™s luxury device: a curved E-Ink touchscreen designed by Tony Fadell of iPod fame, wireless Qi charging, magnetic stacking โ€” the hardware wallet as a designed object. At A$610 it is comfortably the most expensive device on our list.

Functionally, almost everything it does the A$380 Flex also does. You are paying roughly A$230 for industrial design and the pleasure of owning the flagship โ€” a legitimate purchase, as long as you know that is the transaction.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Dedicated secure element (EAL6+)
  • Broad asset support: 9,000+ assets

Cons

  • Premium price (A$610) buys convenience, not more security
  • Closed-source firmware โ€” you trust the vendorโ€™s claims
  • Bluetooth adds convenience and a (mostly theoretical) attack surface

How secure is Ledger Stax?

The same EAL6+ secure element and Ledger firmware as the Flex โ€” the price premium buys design, not additional protection. The big screen genuinely helps transaction verification. Closed source, as with all Ledger devices; official store only, especially for a device this targetable.

Who is Ledger Stax for?

โœ… Good fit ifโ€ฆ

  • You want the nicest object in the category and can wear the premium
  • You verify complex transactions and love the large E-Ink display
  • Youโ€™re gifting the categoryโ€™s halo product

โ›” Look elsewhere ifโ€ฆ

  • Value matters at all โ€” the Flex is the same protection for A$230 less
  • You want open-source firmware
  • You need Monero or exotic-chain support

Getting started with Ledger Stax

  1. 1
Buy from the official store only

Order Ledger Stax direct (our Buy button goes there) or from an authorised AU reseller. Never second-hand, never marketplace sellers โ€” pre-tampered devices are a real scam.

  2. 2
Set up and back up offline

Initialise the device and write the recovery phrase on the supplied card โ€” by hand, never in a photo, password manager or cloud note.

  3. 3
    Verify with a test transfer

Send a small amount from your exchange first, confirm it arrives, then move the rest. Verify the receive address on the device screen, not just your computer.

  4. 4
    Store device and backup separately

The device in one place, the recovery phrase in another. Anyone holding the phrase holds the funds โ€” treat it like the asset itself.

FAQ

Is Ledger Stax safe?

Ledger Stax is a non-custodial hardware wallet with a EAL6+ secure element. No wallet removes the human risks: phishing and seed-phrase theft cause far more losses than device flaws.

How much does Ledger Stax cost in Australia?

A$610 from the official store or authorised AU resellers. Never buy second-hand or from marketplace sellers โ€” tampered devices are a known scam.

What coins does Ledger Stax support?

9,000+ assets

The bottom line

Beautiful, capable, and A$230 of pure design premium โ€” buy it with your eyes open.
