Our take

Trust Wallet is the breadth champion of mobile: 100+ chains and effectively any token you can name, with staking, swaps and a dApp browser built in. Acquired by Binance in 2018 but operated as a separate open-source product, it is many peopleโ€™s first self-custody app.

Breadth is also its weakness: supporting everything means the interface can surface scam tokens and dubious dApps alongside the real thing, and its safety rails are thinner than Rabbyโ€™s or Phantomโ€™s. Good hands need steady judgement.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Open-source firmware โ€” independently auditable
  • Free to use โ€” you only pay network fees
  • Broad asset support: 100+ chains, ~10M assets

Cons

  • Hot wallet โ€” connected to the internet, so device compromise = funds at risk
  • Self-custody means self-responsibility: lose the seed phrase (or access), lose the funds

How secure is Trust Wallet?

Open-source core, long field history, and standard hot-wallet architecture โ€” keys on the phone, protected by the device. The Binance association is corporate, not custodial: keys stay yours. Its main risk is its openness โ€” the dApp browser and token lists will happily show you dangerous things if you go looking.

Who is Trust Wallet for?

โœ… Good fit ifโ€ฆ

  • You want one mobile app covering practically every chain
  • You stake and swap casually from your phone
  • You want open source without desktop complexity

โ›” Look elsewhere ifโ€ฆ

  • You want strong scam screening built in
  • You transact seriously in DeFi (Rabby) or Solana (Phantom)
  • Youโ€™re holding size โ€” hardware territory

Getting started with Trust Wallet

  1. 1
Download from the official site only

Get Trust Wallet via the official website or app store listing linked from it โ€” fake wallet apps and lookalike sites are the #1 way people lose funds on day one.

  2. 2
Create the wallet and secure access

Write the recovery phrase by hand and store it offline. Never screenshot it, never type it into a website โ€” no legitimate service will ever ask.

  3. 3
    Test with a small amount

Send a little crypto in, then back out. Only after the round trip works should meaningful funds follow.

  4. 4
    Keep hot balances small

A software wallet is for using, not storing. Pair it with a hardware wallet and let this be the spending account, not the vault.
